If you've been struggling to make a decent income online, take a moment to review your Internet marketing activities and see how you measure up in terms of staying focused on building your Internet marketing empire...

Do you stick to ONE project and see it through to completion before starting the next, or leave products and sites half-finished?

Do you decide what your followup product or recommended service will be before launching a product, or just do everything as a one-off?

Do you plan out your day, week and/or month to be sure you get your products uploaded, e-mails out, articles submitted, social media marketing done, etc, or just go about it all haphazardly?

Do you have specific short-term goals pegged and step-by-step plans as to how you'll achieve or exceed those goals, or just continue along without any firm plan?

Do you specialize in any one area or niche or do Internet marketing, affiliate marketing and niche marketing based more on what you see at any given time versus any personal map?

Do you stick to one project at a time or fall victim to 'multi-tasking'? Always keep in mind that multi-tasking is another word for unfocused - and studies have shown that every time you interrupt your current activity you're up to 40% less efficient when you return to it.

Do you track your marketing results and fine-tune your promotional efforts to maximize your results, or just keep repeating the same steps over and over?

There are many paths to Internet marketing success, but trying bits and pieces from a number of them is a road to ruin - pick one or two paths and stay with them til you're successful online, THEN consider trying other ideas as well.

Successful online marketing isn't rocket science. There are tried and true paths to follow to the top, and marketing online is better documented than any other industry or business in the world. Stop looking for some magic formula or magic bullet to get there - roll up your sleeves, plan out your steps and stay the course... The more your Internet marketing efforts and activities stay focused on the task at hand at any given point, the farther you'll go online and the sooner you'll get there.

AFTER more than a year of political posturing and rumination, America’s Federal Communications Commission has signed off on Comcast’s purchase of a majority stake in NBC Universal. The resulting company, which combines broadcast and cable channels, local TV stations, a film studio and America’s biggest cable outfit, will rival Disney for the title of world’s biggest media firm. The Justice Department is expected to approve of the deal soon.
The conditions attached to the takeover are revealing, both from a business point of view and for what they say about attitudes to media and technology in Washington. Little is said in the FCC’s summary order about how disputes between Comcast and other media companies over payments for television content should be resolved. These disputes have become increasingly fractious in the past couple of years, with channels periodically disappearing from television sets as media firms and distributors fail to agree prices. They are likely to become downright vicious as broadcast firms like ABC and Fox push for more “retransmission” fees from cable and satellite firms.
There is a good deal more discussion about the internet. Comcast is to be bound by the FCC’s net-neutrality rules even if those rules are overturned by Congress, as Republican legislators have threatened. The firm is to make broadband subscriptions available to 2.5m poor households for less than $10 per month. Most important, the commission seeks to protect and nurture a clutch of online video outfits—or, as the FCC’s chairman, Julius Genachowski, calls it, the “emerging online-video marketplace”. If any one of Comcast’s peers—presumably, Disney, News Corporation, CBS, Viacom or Time Warner, but perhaps including smaller competitors too—cuts a deal to sell programmes to an online-video service, Comcast must cut a similar deal. Comcast is specifically prohibited from bullying Hulu, a video website in which it has, by dint of buying NBC Universal, acquired a share.
Ah, those poor emerging online-video outfits, so in need of protection from big, bad media companies that might try to withhold their programmes. How puny they are. After all, they only include Google (market capitalisation: $200 billion) and Apple ($310 billion, even with Steve Jobs on medical leave). And Mr Jobs is merely the largest individual shareholder in Disney. Indeed, he comes out of the deal rather well. If he can persuade Disney to distribute programmes through Apple, which has been easy in the past and ought to be just as easy in future, the FCC virtually guarantees him access to the combined content of Comcast and NBC Universal.
This is potentially bad news for the television business. The reason media companies, Disney excepted, do not warm to most online video services—the reason those services remain “emerging”—is simple: they do not make money for media companies. Online-video services like Hulu and YouTube run very few advertisements (for not much money, in YouTube’s case). Apple sells TV programmes, but not for much. Indeed, online-video services may, in time, take money away from media firms. If consumers decide to “cut the cord” and cancel their cable or satellite subscriptions in favour of internet-video services, money leaches away from television. It is still unclear whether this is happening, or will happen. The FCC has just made it a little more likely.

How's everything going so far in 2011 for you? Moving
forward with your online efforts? One trick is to be sure
and do something each day that adds to your online empire,
whether it's a new product, a blog post, a new squeeze page
or getting hooked up with a new social media site or social
bookmarking network. Any one of those will help today,
tomorrow and long-term as part of your overall efforts - so
do at least one of those every day.

For example, think about the two e-courses I put online
yesterday...

The whole package, with PLR resell, is under ten bucks.
Yet today you could put the first one online using the
salespage & download page provided. Tomorrow, you could
add your info and links to that e-course and put the
squeeze page and confirmation page online to build your
opt-in list.

One the 3rd day you could put the 2nd salespage online,
and the 4th day would see you putting that e-course up with
it's squeeze page. In total, that's about 6 hours for most
people, spread over the 4 days.

Day 5 you blog about the topics, linking to your sites
and squeeze pages, Day 6 you use your social media & social
bookmarking to promote the e-courses, and Day 7 you use
those techniques to push the salespages.

In one week you've put two products online, two new
list-building squeeze pages, a new blog post and built
several backlinks to your site through social media, all
in 1-1/2 to 2 hours a day.

There are 50 weeks left in 2011 - how would this year
compare to all your time online so far if you just did
that same 15 or so hours a week EACH week? 100 products,
100 squeeze pages, 50 blog posts and a thousand or more
links back to your site(s) and blog - how does that
compare to what you achieved in 2010?

Facebook’s popularity with Internet users has run into the millions since its acceptance of anyone with a valid email address in 2006. Most members play games, update their profiles and upload photos or videos for their friends to view. While planting crops on Farmville, drinking virtual coffee in the cafe or beating off snakes in FrontierVille is addicting, Facebook can also be a powerful marketing tool for Internet marketers.

Marketers, including those using the Internet to market their products, know that in order to attract potential customers, they need to announce the benefits of their products to a large audience and give their readers a reason to visit their site. Simply put, no Visitors = No Sales.

Facebook members make connections with each other, called Friends, and you are only allowed to contact or message those friends. Member profiles are only available to other Facebook members, which creates a loose pool to specifically market to. Some of Facebook’s most popular applications, those you probably use every day are specifically for Internet marketers.

In fact, marketers who know how to market on Facebook start that huge marketing process with their Profile, adding games, puzzles or videos that are interesting to other users. Facebook’s underlying purpose is to make the site a fun place to be. An RSS feature allows users to syndicate their blogs, increasing their exposure dramatically.

Use The Marketplace. Free classified ads are allowed in a few categories. Marketers are jumping all over this free application in the four allowable categories, For Sale, Housing, Jobs and Other. Any Facebook user can take advantage of this treasure trove of opportunities.

Application developers have found a home with Facebook and are happy to design applications that rapidly become standard Facebook apps, taking advantage of the Web 2.0 graphic and audio options available to users.

One feature that's used by those who scan posts instead of reading them is the Status feature. This feature is a quick update on what you are doing and, used carefully, can be a powerful marketing tool. For instance, using Facebook’s format, “John Thomas just finished his new software.” A convenient link to that sales page for that software would get a lot of traffic just from curious members.

A Facebook Event is used for keeping friends aware of upcoming events. Here is where a marketer can advertise seminars, podcasts and ecourses, to name a few. Facebook’s rules about announcing an event should be carefully read in order to avoid being branded a spammer.

Videos are everywhere and have rapidly become the most popular method to use to market many Internet products. Videos can be added to Facebook with a Facebook Mobile application, which has a webcam feature. The videos cannot be shared outside of Facebook, but with the huge membership ranging in the 60 to 70 million users and growing daily, that shouldn’t be too much of a setback to a smart marketer.

Facebook is the perfect versatile application for creative marketers to increase their traffic and, therefore, their customer base. Simple processes can be powerful marketing tools and Facebook is no exception.

Internet marketing has established itself as a viable profession, with tens or hundreds of thousands of people using Internet marketing as a source of full-time or part-time income. Now there is a new use that affects millions more people, especially in North America – using Internet marketing to protect your (and your family’s) future.

There is an old Chinese curse that goes ‘May you live in interesting times’. And these are interesting times indeed. According to the Economist magazine, “The jobless recovery, long prophesied, is here”. The article goes on to point out that the US is still losing over 1,000 jobs per week, in spite of the economic indicators showing the recession ended over a year ago.

The truth is, huge wage gains achieved by the unions in the 1970′s raised the standard of living measurably in North America, but also priced labour much higher than in much of the world. Add in the far-right government policies and the unbridled greed of the big international corporations, and you have a situation where as many jobs have been outsourced overseas as possible. This gives big business a lower cost per unit while still using the richer North American markets as their sales base.
